Christian Medical College Vellore is a tertiary teaching hospital with 3,844 beds, across several campuses. The Department of Palliative Medicine provides outpatient, inpatient (acute care and consultation services), home care services and hospice care (Ida B.Scudder Hospice). 
The department offers postgraduate training in Palliative Medicine (3 year course, Diplomate of National Board, and a one-year residential Certificate Course in Palliative Medicine.  
The department is actively involved in teaching palliative care to undergraduate medical students and postgraduate medical residents from other specialties Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Pulmonary and Respiratory Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Head and Neck Surgery, Gynae Oncology, posted in the Department of Palliative Medicine on rotation.  The nursing faculty also train the nursing students in palliative care nursing.

SPICT Uses

Used in the primary palliative care setting within the hospital and community setting.

75 bedded inpatient hospice with home care and hospital out-reach services and two link centres.
Teaching programmes for doctors, nurses and MSWs
Involved with the training of rural doctors / nurses. and also with the Cancer Treatment Centre initiative (Lien Foundation and AIIMS)
Suprvise MSc, PhD students and those interested in Masters for Public Health
